Errors and failures in the development of products often cost dear for many companies in downstream processes such as production, sales and service. In order to develop the innovative power in the magic triangle of quality, cost and time efficiently, it is therefore increasingly important to incorporate the SIX SIGMA idea into development processes in a structured manner. This has become known as Design for SIX SIGMA (DFSS). DFSS - It aims to develop robust processes, products and technologies. DFSS starts in the early development phase and simultaneously optimizes the four dimensions of time, costs, capital and quality with its preventive methods.
DFSS is used to design or redesign a product or service. The expected process sigma level for a DFSS product or service is at least 4.5 (no more than about 1 error per 1000 possibilities), but can be up to 6 sigma or higher, depending on the product. A product or service with such a low level of error requires that customer expectations and needs (CTQs) be fully understood before a product or service can be completed and implemented.
A popular Design for Six Sigma method is the IDOV.
The four phases of the IDOV are defined as follows:
Executives, Developers, Marketing, Project Managers and Quality Managers, Entrepreneurs, People in Process, Product and Enterprise Development, Patent Engineers
